Persistent cloud cover and a steady northeast wind flow are positioning the overnight low in Chicago near 56–60°F on September 21, limiting radiational cooling while advecting cooler air from the Great Lakes region. National Weather Service guidance and ensemble model runs show the minimum occurring under overcast skies with light precipitation tapering overnight, keeping temperatures from dropping into the lower 50s despite the seasonal climatological average low near 56°F. Recent upstream observations confirm this pattern has held through the past 48 hours, with minimal model spread supporting the 56–60°F range as the most probable outcome and explaining the market’s concentration on the 56–61°F bins.
