Persistent cloud cover, elevated dew points near 65°F, and light northeast winds are limiting radiative cooling overnight, keeping the September 17 minimum in Chicago anchored in the mid-to-upper 60s according to National Weather Service guidance. Recent model runs show only modest spread in the exact low, with the 66-67°F and 68-69°F bins capturing the tightest consensus amid ongoing humid air mass and scattered shower chances that further suppress temperature drops. Historical September averages near 58°F are being exceeded by several degrees due to the entrenched warm pattern, while any brief clearing or wind shift could nudge the reading a degree or two lower into the 64-65°F range. Updated NWS and high-resolution model outputs through the evening will refine the final resolution threshold.
