Esteban "Steve" Guerra secured the Democratic nomination for Cameron County Judge after defeating three-term incumbent Eddie Trevino Jr. in the May 26, 2026, primary runoff by a 55.2% to 44.8% margin. As former chairman of the Brownsville Navigation District board, Guerra has emphasized economic development, job creation through port expansion, public-private partnerships, and beach access restoration. Cameron County's consistent Democratic voting patterns in local races position Guerra as the clear frontrunner against Republican nominee Mauro Garza in the November 3 general election. Trader consensus reflects this structural advantage, though late developments such as turnout shifts, candidate controversies, or broader political momentum could still alter the outcome before ballots are cast.
