Recent National Weather Service and model consensus from GFS runs positions the highest temperature in Austin on September 20 near 98–100°F under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, light southerly flow around 5 mph, and minimal precipitation chances. This stable late-summer pattern with high pressure and modest moisture supports the market’s heavy weighting on 98–99°F, as afternoon peaks are expected to crest in the upper 90s before any evening cooling. Forecasters note heat index values could reach 104°F despite the dry air mass, but official thermometer readings remain the resolution benchmark. Limited model spread keeps probabilities for 96–97°F or 100–101°F secondary, with updates from the Austin/San Antonio NWS office likely to refine the final call before sunset.
