This market will resolve to "Yes" if an official recount of the first round of the 2026 Los Angeles mayoral election is initiated by election authorities by July 15, 2026, 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The relevant election authorities must announce definitively that the recount process will begin or is already underway. A mere recount request or proceedings to consider a recount will not qualify. The initiation of a recount without an announcement by election authorities will also qualify. For purposes of this market, a recount will be considered initiated once election authorities order, schedule, or begin a recount, regardless of which person or entity requested it. A recount is defined as a formal re-tallying of votes that is undertaken by election authorities. A qualifying recount must cover enough ballots such that, if changed, it could affect which candidates will advance to the runoff. Minor administrative re-tallies and routine canvass corrections will not qualify as a recount for purposes of this market. The resolution source will be official information from the relevant election authorities, including the city and county of Los Angeles. The decisive margins in the June 2, 2026, Los Angeles mayoral primary—where incumbent Karen Bass secured 34.3% and Nithya Raman edged Spencer Pratt 29.0% to 25.5%—have produced trader consensus against a recount of the first-round results. With roughly 850,000 total votes cast and a gap exceeding 29,000 ballots between the second- and third-place finishers, the outcome falls well outside typical California thresholds for automatic or low-cost candidate-initiated recounts. Provisional and mail ballot processing concluded without material shifts, and official statements from election officials plus a Department of Justice review have addressed and dismissed isolated claims of discrepancies. While a formal request by Pratt or another candidate remains theoretically possible before certification deadlines, the scale of the deficit and absence of sustained legal action make reversal improbable.
