This market will resolve to “Yes” if Friedrich Merz ceases to be the Chancellor of Germany for any period of time by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. An announcement of Friedrich Merz's resignation/removal before this market's end date will immediately resolve this market to "Yes", regardless of when the announced resignation/removal goes into effect. The resolution source for this market will be the government of Germany, however a consensus of credible reporting will also suffice.Recent state election defeats have intensified pressure on Chancellor Friedrich Merz's position. On September 20, the CDU fell below the 5% threshold in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern—its worst postwar regional result—while AfD secured a strong victory; Berlin saw the CDU placed second behind Die Linke. These outcomes followed a similar setback in Saxony-Anhalt two weeks earlier, amid low personal approval ratings and voter discontent with the government's economic reform agenda on taxes, pensions, and growth. Merz has vowed to remain in office, maintain the CDU-SPD coalition, and advance reforms, with no formal leadership challenge emerging yet from party meetings. Speculation persists around a potential mid-term replacement or coalition strains, though internal support has held for now. Further western state votes loom in 2027.
