Esteban "Steve" Guerra secured the Democratic nomination for Cameron County Judge after defeating three-term incumbent Eddie Trevino Jr. in the May 26, 2026, primary runoff by a 55.2% to 44.8% margin. Guerra, who previously chaired the Port of Brownsville board, advanced to face Republican nominee Mauro Garza in the November 3 general election. Cameron County’s consistent Democratic voting patterns in local races have shaped trader consensus around Guerra’s position, with limited reported shifts in the race since the primaries concluded. Garza, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary, focuses his campaign on infrastructure, public safety, and fiscal issues. No major new developments have altered the matchup in the weeks leading into fall.
