Incumbent Republican Clay Higgins holds a dominant position in Louisiana’s 3rd congressional district, a strongly Republican area encompassing Lafayette and Lake Charles where he secured 70.6 percent in 2024. Qualifying closed in early August 2026 with Higgins facing a fragmented field that includes multiple Democratic challengers such as Priscilla Gonzalez, Tia LeBrun, John Day, and Caleb Walker, plus limited Republican opposition. In Louisiana’s jungle primary system, victory requires over 50 percent; the split among Democratic candidates reduces their ability to consolidate support and challenge the incumbent’s base. Cook Political Report rates the seat Safe Republican, aligning with trader consensus that an outright win on November 3 is the probable outcome absent major late developments.
