Following the March 2026 parliamentary elections, where no party secured an outright majority in the National Assembly, outgoing Prime Minister Robert Golob's attempts to assemble a coalition collapsed in April. This opened the path for Janez Janša of the Slovenian Democratic Party to pursue a centre-right majority, supported by procedural steps such as ministry reductions and outreach to smaller conservative parties. Traders reflect this positioning in their consensus, with Janša holding a commanding lead due to his party's seat count and institutional momentum toward nomination. Potential shifts could arise if alternative alliances emerge or if parliament fails to confirm a candidate by late May, though current arithmetic and recent parliamentary actions continue to favor the frontrunner's prospects for forming the next government.
