Incumbent Prime Minister Robert Abela commands 90.5% trader consensus as Malta's next Prime Minister following his April 27 call for a snap general election on May 30, amid geopolitical tensions from the Iran conflict driving energy cost concerns. Recent Sagalytics polls (April 30–May 6) show his Labour Party leading the Nationalist Party 53.1% to 42.6%, a 10.5-point margin reflecting incumbency advantages and economic resilience in the proportional representation system electing the House of Representatives. Abela's recent district nominations and policy defenses on transport and artist support bolster positioning, while Nationalist leader Alex Borg trails despite youth appeal. An opposition surge via undecided voters, scandals, or turnout shifts could challenge, though historical base rates favor frontrunners in Maltese elections.
