**Carl Johan Sonesson holds a commanding position in the market for the next chair of Region Skåne’s regional board following the September 13, 2026, regional elections.** The Moderate Party increased its seat share, and the existing coalition of Moderates, Christian Democrats, and Liberals—supported by the Sweden Democrats on budget matters—retained its majority in the regional council. This outcome limits opportunities for opposition figures such as Social Democrat Henrik Fritzon and keeps internal Moderate or coalition alternatives like Anna Jähnke, Lisa Flinth, and Niclas Nilsson at lower implied probabilities. Post-election coalition talks are expected to center on continuity of the current Tidö-aligned arrangement rather than a shift in leadership. Sonesson’s long tenure since 2018 and the absence of major disruptions since the vote underpin the strong trader consensus reflected in current pricing.
