AfD maintains a commanding lead in the September 6, 2026 Sachsen-Anhalt Landtag election, backed by consistent polling at 41-43% since spring—nearly double its 2021 result—while the CDU trails at 22-24% and smaller parties hover near or below the 5% threshold. This positioning stems from sustained voter shifts in eastern Germany toward the AfD under lead candidate Ulrich Siegmund, amid a CDU-SPD-FDP coalition now headed by Minister-President Sven Schulze. With roughly three weeks remaining, traders price near-certainty in an AfD plurality given the stable gap and limited volatility in recent surveys. An absolute majority remains possible if minor parties miss the threshold, though seat math under mixed-member proportional rules could still hinge on final turnout and overhang effects. Late developments such as major scandals, unexpected turnout surges among non-AfD voters, or shifts in coalition signals could narrow margins but appear unlikely to alter the frontrunner status based on current evidence.
