The AfD secured the largest share of seats in the 6 September 2026 Sachsen-Anhalt Landtag election, capturing 43.8 percent of the vote and 39 of 83 mandates. This outcome reflected sustained voter consolidation in eastern Germany, more than doubling the party's 2021 result amid high turnout near 78 percent, while the CDU recorded its weakest state performance at 17.2 percent. Fragmented support across the SPD, Greens, Left, and BSW left no viable alternative bloc with comparable strength. The market's near-certain pricing for AfD as election winner aligns with these confirmed preliminary tallies. A shift would require official final results or a redefinition of "winner" to focus solely on government formation, though the party's firewall isolation makes the latter improbable without major procedural changes.
