Mark Brown's commanding position in the market stems from the Cook Islands Party's victory in the 12 August 2026 general election, where it secured 13 of 24 seats plus independent support for a supermajority caucus. This outcome followed the party's fourth consecutive term and allowed Brown to retain his role as prime minister while reappointing cabinet ministers. Traders have priced in this result as the dominant factor, with opposition leaders including Tina Pupuke-Browne and Teariki Heather seeing minimal implied probability after their parties' weaker showings. Late shifts remain possible only through rare events such as resignation, coalition realignment, or successful electoral petitions still under review.
